"The complacent, the self-indulgent, the soft societies are about to be swept away...

It’s not often that I get all intellectual and quote JFK, but it there were ever a time when a serious statement about the contemplation of war should be used, it would be now:

"The complacent, the self-indulgent, the soft societies are about to be swept away with the debris of history. Only the strong... can possibly survive."

People who wallow in complacency, who indulge their irrational whims, who are by definition, mentally soft... history is littered with those who were convinced that their warped dogma was absolute.

It was on the cusp of Cuban missile crisis that Kennedy made that audacious statement. He also said the US' allies would "think that we're slightly demented" and at times, have no idea what the final outcome would be.

As we know, JFK, with the aide of a Russian submarine captain, and his faithful dog Lassie, warded off what would have possibly been the worst catastrophe in the history of mankind. And it wasn't with violence, but with reason, intelligence, cunning, diplomacy and careful planning.

I guess he couldn't get his hands on a few good water balloons...

Because, you know, as Brian Jones said, “we piss anywhere”
